Alright, yes, Verizon is yet again facing a legal problem, and this time, it has something to do with customer data production rules right here in the USA. And just so you know, this Verizon Customer Data Lawsuit is actually fired by a woman named Susan Taylor, but why?
Well, as per her claim, Verizon not only collected the personal data or information of the customer, but it went on to share it with third parties as well. And it is not like some regular data, we’re talking about things like browsing history, location details, app usage and much more. So yes, it’s pretty serious actually! If you don’t know yet, this kind of information can easily be used to create super-targeted ads for customers, and if you think that’s okay, well, it’s just not.
And it is not like Verizon is facing such legal issues for the first time, there have been some other incidents as well like the hidden fee problem and a few other things. And in this particular case, Susan Taylor had said that she just wanted this lawsuit in the mainstream media because a big company like Verizon can’t just use and share customer data like it is nothing.
Verizon’s Privacy Problem
Well, so far you must have got to know that the main issue here is privacy. You see, these days we literally trust every big company out there, and sure enough, Verizon is one of them. But we also expect them to follow the rules and protect customer privacy at all costs. And then you see a lawsuit like this, and it is just purely disappointing.
It is not just about sharing and collecting data, the lawsuit also goes on to emphasize one more talking point and it is the fact that Verizon made it difficult for customers to opt out of this data collection, and that was purely on purpose. Like, if you are a Verizon customer, you can’t just straight up opt-out of your data collection, they’ll collect your data regardless. That’s why this case has gained so much attention, like, people want to know if their personal data was shared without their permission.
What’s Verizon Saying About All of This?
Well, just like you expect a big company to do, Verizon hasn’t released a big public statement out there defending itself. We’ll keep you posted about whatever they release out there in the public about this particular lawsuit, but at the moment, no words from them.
The $100 Million Settlement, Like, Why Verizon Already Paid Up?
Are you aware of the fact that before this very lawsuit was even filed, Verizon already had paid a massive $100 settlement over some other issue? Another issue? What was that? Well, this one is pretty interesting as well, you see, Verizon got caught implementing some shady fees on their customers, like the customers who were using their postpaid wireless plans, were actually charged with some extra fees aka hidden fees for some extra administrative things, but without even letting the customers know about it beforehand.
