Trump Foreign Aid Nonprofits Lawsuit

Alright, so the 47th President of the United States, Mr. Donald Trump has shocked the country and the entire world once again. How? Well, with his bold move, that’s precisely how. Like, back in January 2025, he came out and said that he would freeze and cut off nearly 90% of the US foreign aid budget. Doesn’t that sound too big of a deal? What if we tell you that the 90% cut actually means $60 billion, which was supposed to be used or go to humanitarian products in the entire world? How about now?

By this point, you may be wondering like why’s he even doing this? What’s the motive or reason behind this bold move? Well, as per whatever he has said to the public, he strongly believes that this foreign aid actually is a waste of money and he says that the U.S. taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be spent like this, instead, they can use all this money right here in the United States, to make things better for the citizens. If you think that this was just it, nah, well, the Trump administration even went on to terminate thousands of contracts with nonprofit organizations that had already been promised payments.

And this is the whole drama that has been going on for the last few weeks now, and that’s precisely why we’re seeing this Trump Foreign Aid Nonprofits Lawsuit thing in action. Let’s see some more details about this scene, and try to make sense of it.

Nonprofits Fight Back

First of all, you should know that this foreign aid money is actually approved by Congress, so the President should not be able to take such a bold action and stop this aid altogether. This is why so many nonprofit organizations out there were kinda on edge about this and they were raising their voices against the Trump administration. It seems to have worked for now. How? Oh, you’ll come to know that soon.

What Was The First Court Decision?

Well, sure enough, things ended up in the court, and it was the U.S. District Judge Amir Ali who saw this case first. What did he do? Oh, he reviewed every detail of this case, and then went on to say that this action of the Trump Administration is “illegal” and even ordered that the government release $2 billion that they have stopped so far.

What Did The Supreme Court Say?

Just recently, we saw that on March 5, 2025, the Supreme Court actually ruled against Trump in a close 5-4 decision, and sure enough, the court went on to say that the lower court’s order will be standing strong. So what now? Nothing, this just means that the Trump administration must pay out the $2 billion that they have stopped as foreign aid so far, and this is the final thing so far about this case.

Sure, we know that the Trump administration must pay the frozen amount, but when? Well, for that, there is no deadline given by the Supreme court in the hearings, so we’ll know when it happens, and we’ll keep you posted.
