For those who don’t know yet, well, Kian Brose is a YouTuber from Sweden who actually makes videos about games and tech-related things, and now we’re seeing his name pop up in this Minecraft Lawsuit GoFundMe thing. Really? Yes, that’s what’s happening, and this has been all over the headlines recently, but what exactly is going on here? Well, just so you know, he started his YouTube channel back in 2012 where he taught people how to code and useful tech tips. Eventually, though, he changed directions and started creating comical videos on gaming and tech. People seem to enjoy it as he now has over 214,000 subscribers on his channel.
Kian is actually going against the creator of one of the most played games out there, yes, Minecraft. And his claim seems to be kinda legit, so you should get to know a little more about it. That’s precisely what we’re up to. Let’s see why this lawsuit even is a thing, and what is the background of it all, shall we?
But Why Exactly Is This Lawsuit A Thing? Like What Was The Need?
The suit discusses how Mojang, the creator of Minecraft, enforces its rules in a way that Kian believes is purely unjust. Mojang has muddled up the rules so much that they can twist them up in their favor easily. One big example, he points out, is guns in Minecraft. What about that though? Well, Mojang has stated that servers can’t have guns because it does not fit their brand. Minecraft Marketplace still sells mods that add guns to the game; which is strange as Mojang doesn’t allow guns in Minecraft. Kian states this rule is unfair because servers such as “MC Wars,” his own, were forced to shut down.
The other thing that Kian is unhappy about is gambling in Minecraft. You know, some gaming servers have gambling-like features to lure younger players and Kian thinks this is an indictment of Mojang’s inaction. He thinks this is a violation of the game’s own policies and even some European laws, so this should change in his opinion. That’s precisely what this Minecraft Lawsuit GoFundMe thing is all about and we’re seeing this sort of legal mess.
What About The GoFundMe Campaign Then?
You see when Kian figures out Mojang isn’t listening, he decides to take a major step, and what’s that exactly? Well, on December 3, 2024, he made a video detailing the issues he observed and launched a GoFundMe to collect funds for the lawyer’s costs. He aimed for SEK 915,000 (approx. $84,000), money he needed to pay for lawyers and sue Mojang.
Though, as we all saw it, the response was incredible. Gamers came together to help him out in the community. In no time at all the campaign actually exceeded its goal, not just met it! Kian raised more than SEK 1,200,000 (slightly over $110,000). This showed how fed up everyone was with Mojang and how much they believed in what Kian was fighting for. So no wonder why this specific lawsuit against Minecraft’s creator is so special and so popular these days, literally it is in the headlines all around the globe. And that’s just because Minecraft is one of the most popular games out there.
