By this point, you must have heard of the Duggars if you watched “19 Kids and Counting” or “Counting On”. Correct us if we’re wrong! Big family, conservative values, reality TV fame, the very matrix of America’s go-to everything “wholesome”. Now Jason Duggar, the twelfth in such a mega-sized crew, is in the news, and not for building treehouses or fixing kitchens. He is right at the center of a messy legal battle concerning his construction business and let’s just say, it’s not good. So, let’s just go over this Duggar Contractor License Lawsuit and see what is really up with all this stuff.
So, What’s it About?
Just so you know though, Mark Thompson had hired Jason’s company Madison Holding, LLC, to do renovation on the house he had bought in Bella Vista, Arkansas. Quite a simple story, don’t you think? But Thompson has a different story to tell: The job turned out to be a nightmare, you know? Like, when you talk about things like walls that are cracked, doors that refuse to close, incomplete bathrooms, and the sorry state of a roof, really yikes! Though, Thompson claims Jason assured that it would take care of the problems within 30 days. Fast forward: 11 months later most of the problems were still there, just collecting dust, and nothing was done for that.
Here’s Where It Gets Sticky
Sure enough, as many of you may have suspected already, yes, Thompson goes on to say that Jason told him he was indeed a licensed contractor. You know, the professional person who can legally fix up your house. Yes, that! But when Thompson decided to double-check with the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board? Well, well, it is safe to say that there were no names or companies related to that.
So what’s all this then? Well, just so you know, Jason might have been doing the work without a license. That is a no-no in Arkansas (or pretty much anywhere), and it means much more than doing a bad job in renovations, if true. Misleading a client about your qualifications? That’s simply just crossing the line.
Promises, Delays, and Excuses
At first, Jason’s company admitted there were problems, like the wonky roof, and said they’d take care of it, but what really happened? Well, sure enough, they had the promise of taking care of it. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and then, and then, well, nothing but crickets. Later down the line, Jason allegedly would tell Thompson to hire someone else to finish the repair.
You are hearing the first or second time: “Wait, what?” Pay for work and get it done for the former Thompson. That is a different way in which he got so much empty assurance and a whole lot of busted promises. So, he took Jason and his company to court to get back what was lost: in dollars and sanity, you know?
What’s Mark Thompson Looking For?
By this point, you must be clear about it all, like, what Thompson wants is for Jason’s company to pay off. That’s all! You know, at this point, he is demanding the amount involved in the repairing of the house, attorney fees, and other legal expenses, in effect, he states, “You broke it; you mend it along with all the injury you have caused on your way.” And that’s pretty understandable too if you really think about it for a sec.
All in all, just know that if the court agrees that Jason has been working without a license and has failed to deliver on his promises, it may turn into quite an expensive lesson for Jason, that’s what we’re pretty certain of.
