Do you remember that viral video where we saw a Lyft driver denying entry to a Detroit rapper named Dank Demoss because she was too heavy to fit in the ride? Oh, well, that has now turned into a legal mess right now, and it has got people talking, like, most of the people are divided into two parts, some are out there supporting the rapper, whereas others are supporting Lyft and the driver. And recently, this Dank Lawsuit Against Lyft has become even more interesting because of some incidents that happened, so, let’s just get to the details and see what is really going on.
What Really Happened Back Then?
See, it was actually in January 2025 when a Detroit rapper by the name of Dank Demoss (her real name is Dajua Blanding) ordered a Lyft ride. She was going to a football match party at her friend’s house. So? What was the problem? Well, the thing is, the Lyft ride showed up, but the driver didn’t let her in and cancelled her ride. Why exactly? Well, he refused to let her in because she was too big to fit in his car. Just so you know though, at the time of this incident, Dank Demoss was about 489 pounds. And the Lyft ride that showed up was a Mercedes-Benz Sedan.
When the driver actually refused to let her sit in his car and drive to wherever she wanted, he also went on to say that he couldn’t let her in because his car’s tires might pop. And this whole incident was recorded by Dank Demoss because it was too offensive for her.
As we can already see in the video the driver also went to apologize to her on the spot, but still didn’t let her take the ride because she couldn’t fit in the car. He said that cars have limits and it is not his problem that she doesn’t fit in the car.
The Internet Went Crazy Over This
Sure enough, as Dank Demoss posted this video online, it went viral practically overnight. And surely, the internet went crazy over this matter, like, a lot of people were siding with her, whereas so many people were straight up roasting her and her wait saying that she’s the one who needs to change things because the car can’t expand itself to let her fit in.
Some people even went on to say that if she was so concerned about all this, then she should have ordered a Lyft+ ride, which is specifically for plus-sized people.
Why She’s Taking Lyft to Court
Well, despite whatever people were saying, she actually decided that she’ll take legal action against not only the Lyft company but the driver who denied her entry as well. This lawsuit was filed in the Wayne County Circuit Court in Michigan.
On what basis she is suing Lyft and that driver? Well, you see, there is a specific law which goes by the name Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, which protects people from discrimination based on weight, height, race, sex, age, and other factors.
Though, while all of this was going on, Dank Demoss went on with a somewhat revealing photoshoot, and that was the point where the internet turned on her and she’s now facing a lot of backlash.
