Chloe Bailey Songwriter Lawsuit

A lot of people have been saying for so long that songwriters are being abused in the industry by not getting enough credit for their creative work and this Chloe Bailey Songwriter Lawsuit might be a prime example of just that. How? As we all know Chloe Bailey is a famous singer as well as songwriter, who was part of the musical duo Chloe x Halle back in the day.

And it was actually in 2024 when she launched her album called The Trouble in Paradise, which is what is causing a lot of problems for her now. Why? Well, it is 2025 now, and she’s already facing a major lawsuit regarding that particular album. You see, there is a songwriter by the name Melvin Moore, who is accusing her of using his work without even giving him credit or any payment for it. Right after this lawsuit became a thing, so many people are now talking about the music industry scene, like, whether or not songwriters are being abused in the industry. So, let’s just go over the details and see who’s in the wrong here.

First Of All, Who Is Melvin Moore?

See, if you don’t know anything about him, just know that he’s a well-known songwriter in the industry and usually goes by the name “OneInThe4Rest” or just “4Rest”. And his portfolio actually speaks for him, like, over the years, he has worked with many big names such as Chris Brown, Usher, Drake, BTS, and Kanye West. So you can get an idea of how big of a name he is in the music industry as a songwriter, you know?

He has also been nominated for a Grammy as well. But now, he clearly says that he has been treated rather unfairly by Chloe Bailey and her team.

Key Details of the Lawsuit

Well, now let’s just go over the details of this case, so, first of all, this lawsuit was actually filed back on 20th February 2025 in a New York court. And it is not like he’s just suing Chloe Bailey, he’s also after companies like Columbia Records, Parkwood Entertainment (which is Beyoncé’s management company), and Sony Music.

So far, what we know as per the details of this case, Melvin is actually focusing on three specific songs from Trouble in Paradise. These songs are “Favorite,” “Might As Well,” and “Same Lingerie.”

He went on to say that he was the one who helped write these songs and the ideas for these songs and lyrics came from his own personal life, like you know, his feelings, his relationships, and his struggles. And these people and companies were straight up abusing his personal work without even giving him credit or payment for it.

So What Now?

Well, the thing is, Melvin Moore is asking the court for a lot of money, like you know, first, he wants $150,000 for each time his work was used without permission, which in itself is a huge amount if you just think about it for a sec. And as we already told you, there are three songs he’s concerned about, so now, he is also asking for $5 million in punishment money for each song. So, in total, that’s about $15 million. The lawsuit is still going on, so let’s see what the court makes of it.
