So, there have been a lot of stories going around about companies suing people because of reviews they seem to find undesirable, however, this is really a whole new level, but why are we saying that though? Well, just meet Executive Roof Services, or ERS for short. It is a roofing contracting company in Vancouver, Washington. The company has now taken up suing a couple, yes, of real people, for what they consider bad Google reviews against their company. The company, however, goes beyond asking for small amounts to actually sue the couple for a whopping amount of $112,000. That’s just wild, right? Alright, off to the topic of Executive Roof Services Lawsuit Update, just to let you know what is going on with this case lately.
A Leaky Roof, Some Angry Calls, and Boom. Bad Reviews!!
All started in here. Where? Well, just know that Autumn Knepper and Adam Marsh were renting a house, and? You see, of course, they saw something: the ceiling was leaking. They said to their landlord like any other normal renters: she called ERS in. All went well and well until Autumn and Adam tried to go about asking ERS repair-time questions.
When Autumn reported about the situation, it was like that, the receptionist was flat-out impolite, did not want to field any of her questions, and even hung up on her. That’s just pure unfair, don’t you think? When Adam called to try his luck, he received an equal cold treatment. They were so annoyed that they decided to leave 1-star Google reviews and even lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on the same issue. Fair enough, right? Well, not in the book of ERS, but why’s exactly that? We don’t know that yet, but it sure is a wild thing to sue someone just because they left a negative review, if that is the case, then we would see millions of lawsuits every year.
And Then Things Got Real, How? Yes, This Lawsuit!
Instead of just letting it go like a usual negative review, they decided to take it seriously, like how? Well, sure enough, ERS went full-blown dramatic, not letting it lie or doing the conventional business thing. Just so you know though, they said the owner of the company Michael Mecham called Autumn and made some heavy creepy overtures, like telling her that he knew where she lived and that he would be suing her up to the hilt. And he did!
Keep in mind though as for ERS, they filed a complaint with the couple, treating their reviews as defamatory and seeking to retaliate against them for trying to extort privileged and confidential information from the company. Sure enough, they were not joking and were seeking $112,000 in damages for the so-called intentional harm to their business. Unsurprisingly, Autumn and Adam were completely blindsided and scared stiff. They’re just normal people, they can’t just go out of their way to pay some lawyer to fight their case because they don’t have enough resources for that. And that’s precisely where people are saying that ERS is in the wrong here for taking over normal people’s lives and messing it all up, and for what exactly, just a genuine negative review? That’s just insane.
