As most of you may already be familiar, HGTV’s “100 Day Dream Home” made headlines with its kind of sky high and lofty ambition: fully personalized dream homes made from scratch within a time span of only 100 days. Sounds too good to be true right? Well, that was pretty much how it went for many people. What are we talking about? Here’s the thing, the show’s reception flourished due to the undeniable attraction of the hosting duo, realtor Mika and developer Brian Kleinschmidt, along with their know-how, you know?
Sure enough, residential units were given the freedom to channel their creativity into the designs of their dream homes, which they did in an artful way as they waited in excitement for the major finale at the project’s end. But once again, nonetheless, not every dream has a fortunate end. While some developers were all ecstatic over their new additions, others were quite restrained due to some serious glitches and issues that rendered their original excitement an emotion of frustration. What Went Wrong?
Sure enough, trouble came for this show when many homeowners brought forth lawsuits claiming serious defects in their homes, and those were quite concerning. Just so you know though, these are not trivial problems, however, the big issues included unsecured construction, electrical risk, and industry-acknowledged defective gas lines installed by unqualified contractors. Not just that though, others complained about the lack of drainage systems, the repair of faulty dishwashers, and the occurrence of flooding problems as well. Sure enough, most homeowners were worried that their homes were not made to last long, in fact, some stated explicitly that they did not feel safe residing in them.
To add to their frustration, some of the homeowners were said to have been deceived by some of the people involved. The expectations they had about superior construction were contrasted with what they described as “hasty work” and “shortcuts taken”. Sure enough, on top of that, many were locked into contracts that had imposed severe restrictions on their capacity to vent publicly about these issues.
How Do Homeowners Feel?
Without a single doubt, yes, the feedback from participants in the show has been quite varied in nature. Like, some praised low prices and rapid construction periods, while on the other end of the spectrum, several were very let down. All we would say is that yes, they pictured their homes as badly built ones, suffering from issues right from the start of their stay in them.
Just so you know though, homeowners through the construction process were not given any vital data to touch on, which forced them to leap into the legal way when problems started showing up literally everywhere.
What Are Mika, Brian, and HGTV Saying?
Sure enough, as many of you have already suspected, yes, legal accusations against Mika and Brian have been denied by them while they work hard on these homes to meet world-class quality standards. In fact, the very network called HGTV that is behind the show has also supported that process, you know, highlighting the idea that the homeowners were fully engaged in making drawings and agreed upon all of the terms of the contract before any construction activity kicked off, so in a way, they’re trying to involve the homeowners saying that it was somewhat their fault as well. Which is just insane if you think about it for a sec.
Though, so far, HGTV has recommended mediation, a private listing process aimed at resolving disagreements outside the courthouse to fight the disputes. But many homeowners aren’t backing down, they’re planning to go further in this legal drama.
